“Congregation at Large”
What is a “Congregation at Large” ?
Let me give you some background information.In Lacey WA (USA) the "CHRIST is King evangelical church" was founded. There were a lot of people with whom they had contact in the past and who were interested in the new ministry.
Many of them however lived on a distance by which it became impossible for them to visit the services frequently. That is why they looked for a way to enable those people to still be a full member of the church, resulting in a congregation which could be split up in two categories.
The "Core Congregation", which are those people who live in the neighborhood and could visit the meetings frequently, and
The “Congregation at large”, consisting of those people who are not able to visit the meetings frequently, but do like to be involved with the church
This worked very good in this church. They were able to keep good contacts with the "at large" connected people en to keep them involved in the church, and so have been of good service to them.
They realized this by monthly newsletters and a contact form which was developed to maximize the input of the members and to enable them to share their longings and needs. Prayer, advise, questions and answers, contact, it is all directly available by phone, E-mail and Mail.
We admit it may be somewhat less personal, but what counts for the members (the distance being a hindrance) counts of course as well for the pastoral worker. And the solution worked..!As much of this is similar to the activities of Ekklesia a cooperation in a larger scale was an almost logical next step. Besides this we have like them different Bible-study materials which can be studied at home.
A somewhat unconventional way of 'being church'
We have experienced that this somewhat unconventional way of being church can also be of great help to those whose jobs or other circumstances keep them from this important aspect of life.
That is why we also started to offer membership to others who want contact with their creator and look for spiritual growth through this service.We welcome anybody, from the very matured believer to the person who is still trying to find the truth. You are welcome, no matter who or what you are. We will not hide for problems, but will try to help you to solve them. Whenever you need help in problem areas in your life, we want to be there for you and your family, and you are cordially invited to join us.
The Meetings, studies, sermons, and devotionals of Faith Evangelistic Association, and so also those of Evangelical Christian Assembly "Emmanuel", Christian Community "Ekklesia" and "Koinonia" House meetings, are evangelistic and dogmatic.
Christian Community "Ekklesia" has charismatic as well as non-charismatic members. We focus more on what binds us together than on what might divide us, and concentrate on the Gospel of CHRIST.Our goal is to reach the greatest number of people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the shortest possible time and with the best available means and to form a community where God and His Word have the highest priority.
